Introduction: Past Continuous Tense in hindi

Past Continuous Tense का प्रयोग उन कार्यों को व्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता है जो भूतकाल में किसी निश्चित समय पर जारी थे या लंबे समय तक चल रहे थे। इसमें यह बताया जाता है कि कोई कार्य अतीत में शुरू हुआ और कुछ देर तक चलता रहा।

1.वह पढ़ रहा था।

2.मैं खाना बना रही थी।

3.बच्चे खेल रहे थे।

4.हम गाना गा रहे थे।

5.वह सो नहीं रही थी।

पहचान: Past Continuous in Hindi

उपरोक्त sentences को आपने पढ़ा और आपने देखा की इन

हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में “रहा था, रही थी, रहे थे” जैसे शब्द आते हैं।

अंग्रेजी वाक्यों में “was/were + verb (-ing form)” का प्रयोग होता है।

यह टेंस दिखाता है कि कोई कार्य भूतकाल में जारी था या किसी समय पर चल रहा था।

Usage (प्रयोग) of Past Continuous Tense in Hindi

जब कोई कार्य भूतकाल में किसी खास समय पर जारी था:

At 8 PM, she was cooking dinner.
रात 8 बजे वह खाना बना रही थी।

जब दो कार्य एक साथ हो रहे हों:

He was studying while I was watching TV.
जब वह पढ़ाई कर रहा था, तब मैं टीवी देख रहा था।

किसी बैकग्राउंड सीन को बताने के लिए:

The birds were chirping, and the wind was blowing softly.
पंछी चहचहा रहे थे और हवा धीरे-धीरे चल रही थी।

Helping verbs: Past Continuous Tense

Past Continuous Tense की helping verbs (सहायक क्रिया) was /were होती है।

Singular number subjects (एकवचन कर्ता) के साथ was का प्रयोग करते है।

Plural number subjects (बहुवचन कर्ता) के साथ were का प्रयोग करते है।

वह खेल रही थी। She was playing.

हम गाना गा रहे थे। We were singing a song.

पहले sentence में subject वह (he) singular number(एकवचन) है अंत: was का प्रयोग किया गया है जबकि दुसरे sentence का subject हम (we) plural number (बहुवचन) है अंत: were का प्रयोग किया गया है।

Verb: Past Continuous Tense in Hindi

Past Continuous Tense में verb 1st + ing (V4) का प्रयोग करते है।

वह खेल रही थी। She was playing.

हम गाना गा रहे थे। We were singing a song.

उपरोक्त दोनों sentences में verb+ing का प्रयोग किया गया है playing and singing.

Subject + was/were + not + verb (ing) + object.

Helping Verb से शुरू होने वाले वाक्य (Yes/No Questions)

Extra Note:

“Not” को मुख्य रूप से helping verb के बाद लगाया जाता है।
शॉर्ट फॉर्म का प्रयोग अनौपचारिक भाषा में होता है (spoken English या casual writing)।
ऐसे प्रश्नों में अक्सर आश्चर्य, संदेह या पुष्टि का भाव होता है।

Past Continuous Tense के लिए Time Adverbs / Keywords (सामान्य समय सूचक शब्द):

Past Continuous Tense का प्रयोग करते समय कुछ खास keywords या time adverbs होते हैं जो यह दर्शाते हैं कि कोई कार्य भूतकाल में किस समय पर चल रहा था।

जब भी कोई ऐसा समय दिखाना हो जिसमें कार्य चल रहा था, तब ये keywords इस्तेमाल किए जाते हैं।
इन शब्दों को देखकर आप पहचान सकते हैं कि वाक्य Past Continuous Tense में होना चाहिए।

Use of while and When
Past Continuous Tense में “while” और “when” का प्रयोग दो घटनाओं को जोड़ने के लिए किया जाता है — जिनमें से एक लंबे समय तक चलने वाली क्रिया (Past Continuous) होती है और दूसरी अचानक हुई क्रिया (Past Indefinite) हो सकती है।

“While” और “When” का प्रयोग कैसे करें?

While = जब तक / के दौरान

इसका प्रयोग उस क्रिया के साथ होता है जो लंबे समय तक चल रही होती है (Past Continuous)

When = जब

इसका प्रयोग अक्सर उस अचानक घटने वाली क्रिया (Past Indefinite) के साथ किया जाता है जो Past Continuous में चल रही क्रिया के दौरान होती है।
